A term mainly heard within the American design fraternity, co-mingling space refers to that part of a building or the built environment where people can spontaneously assemble, move about and mix together.
Co-mingling spaces occur when two or more spaces, each with its own function, overlap to cause a common meeting ground.
Co-mingling spaces are found in lobbies, foyers, corridors, landings and, indeed, in any space that, either by accident or design, allows people to congregate and associate.
